Swimming Pools: Debunking Myths That Are Just All Wet

Many times people decide against owning a pool based on myths they’ve heard from people who don’t even own a pool or are not familiar with today’s technology. After we show them what’s possible today, they often dive in and build a pool, and they are thrilled that they did.”

Farwell Pools & construction

MYTH
"Having a poll will take up all my spare time."

FACT
A properly designed pool takes an average of an hour per week of attention.

Duane says that this is the biggest chuckle with customers after they’ve experienced having their own pool. “Customers are relieved to discover how little time is required to maintain their pool.”

Pool owner Kathy Cox of Verona says her pool is easy to maintain, “In my experience, if you build it correctly with the right technology, it is so maintenance-free, it’s unbelievable. People have preconceived notions about pools from yesteryear. Farwell recommended things that have made our pool so easy to maintain, like an automatic cover. It’s made all the difference.”

MYTH
All in-ground pools and pool builders are about the same.”

FACT
Vinyl-liner pools enjoy high satisfaction ratings, the right buildermakes a big difference.

Says Duane Farwell, “There are three main types of pool construction, including steel wall with vinyl liner, concrete and fiberglass shell. Steel wall, vinyl liner is the most popular in our climate due to its durability, ease of maintenance and design flexibility.”
When Kathy Cox of Verona looked for a builder, she was looking for reputation, experience and referrals, “If I have an issue with my pool, I want to call the people who built it for me.When we chose Farwell Pools, it was big forme that they’d been around since 1968. I was close to putting a deposit on a pool with another builder, and am glad I didn’t because they then soon went out of business. And then I would have been stuck.”

Brian Brugger of Monroe did a lot of investigation before selecting Farwell Pools, “I knew three people who have put a pool in with Farwell Pools, and they were happy. Farwell Pools explained everything in a way thatmade sense tome.We have a salt pool, and others tried to talk me out of it because they had no experience. Farwell Pools did. They even had one and had used it themselves to make sure it worked. I felt that he wasn’t telling me something he didn’t know.”

MYTH
Chemical costs are high and pools need a lot of chlorine.”

FACT
Today’s systems for purifying water are extremely efficient and requireminimal upkeep.

Properly chlorinated water for pools is similar to that for drinking or showering. The average pool needs between one and two parts per million (ppm), a far lower concentration than popularly believed. Many people draw conclusions from being exposed to improperly chlorinated water at public or other pools.

One method for pool maintenance, called salt chlorinating systems, can produce all the chlorine needed for upkeep. As the chlorine does its job, it degenerates, reverting back into salt. In turn, the salt is recycled to chlorine continuing an endless cycle of maintaining proper chlorine levels and therefore reducing cost.

MYTH
"Having a pool isn't worth the time and cost."

FACT
Most pool owners say the enjoyment of owning a pool far outweighs the cost.

Brian Brugger said their pool has been a great value for their family. “A lot of our friends have cabins up north. We’d rather have something right here in our backyard. It’s been awesome. We can enjoy it for 10 minutes if we want. It’s like our own little resort in our own back yard.”

Says Kathy Cox, “I remember going to the city pool when I was little, but it was always an inconvenience. Being able to walk out your backdoor and use your own pool anytime you want is awesome! I love it. I think we’ll always have a pool.”

For families who want to discover a lifetime of fun in their own backyard, in-ground pools can provide a great solution.
