Cabinetry Tips and Ideas
Cabinet Trends
Furniture look -The strongest kitchen trend is cabinetry that it looks more like furniture. More decorative accents are being used and homeowners today are sometimes using actual pieces of furniture such as armoires or bookcases, or adding legs to cabinets to make them look like furniture.
Eclectic look- Combine several styles/types and colors of wood in one kitchen
Colors are growing everywhere, thanks to the use of painted cabinets. Overall, a trend away from whites and heavy distressing to more painted finishes.
Exotic woods also are becoming popular. Cherry and maple are strong, but the high-end market in particular wants designs out of the ordinary. Examples include
    - Quarter-sawn white oak,
- Canadian red birch,
- Old French white oak,
- Knotty chestnut
- Burl wood.
Storage in general has been expanded, with organizational systems of all types available for cabinetry.
    - Designers are adding additional drawer space for storage.
- Organizational dividers conserve space, including deep drawers with partitions for plates.
- More, and more substantial, pullout shelves are being added.
- Recycling centers with easy-access ports are built right into islands.
- Chefs’ chopping block countertops offer convenience, and pull-out workspaces offer elbow room
Cabinet Hardware Trends- Environmentally friendly & recycled cabinet hardware using recycled aluminum, glass, and wood from construction sites is being used.
    - In addition to recycled products, there are many companies specializing in hardware (specifically cabinet knobs) made from renewable resources, such as cork or bamboo.
- Homeowners are even paying attention to the hidden hardware by specifically requesting self-closing under mount slides on drawers
Cabinet Refacing is also growing– if you like the “footprint” of your kitchen and bathroom but want a new look, having your existing cabinets refaced with nearly any look you want is an option that will cost about 50% less than replacing your cabinets completely.
