Remodeling Bathrooms: 'A Trend Toward Expression...'

“Starting about ten years ago, a trend began growing toward personal expression being a major influence on how people remodeled their bathrooms.”  Mike Webster, Owner of Webster & Associates, Bathroom Remodeling Specialists.

Prior to this time frame, people wanted nice looking and functional solutions with their remodeling. It was a personal place not requiring too much more than being functional. In fact, a bathroom remodel at that time was pretty straight forward.

Presently, an important step in the process is identifying the style the homeowners want. That translates into looking at all components in the remodel project taking on a design aspect. Colors, tiles, textures and other things such as hardware all are scrutinized at a much deeper level than ever before.

It Takes Two To Tango (and Remodel)

Another trend that seems to be growing is couples are doing the process together. It’s usually a couple between 30 and 40 years old and are first time homeowners,” says Webster. “They are looking to make the project an extension of themselves.

Homeowners still want to maximize function, but they also want an escape from the day to day, with a room that shows their personality. A place they enjoy, that says ‘this is who I am’.

The Home & Garden Network, and other do-it-yourself themed shows inspire a great deal of thought and planning that rarely took place in the past. In general, both spouses are involved now where as in the past; the wife usually was the driving force. That’s not exclusively the case any longer. The final result is a room that generally turns out great because of the level of thought and collaboration that occurs with each project.

“My suggestion is for the homeowner to choose a contractor that takes a designer approach to remodeling a project, it will assure them the project will have the right feel from start to finish.”

“The bar is set a little higher now, but we have developed the ability to manage the process more effectively, helping our customers reach their ultimate goal of both a functional and beautiful bathroom.”  Mike Webster, Owner of Webster &  Associates, Bathroom Remodeling Specialists
